English Proofreading and Copyediting for Non-Native Speakers

Every text I work on in English will read well, sound natural and be correct — whatever the document.

My "proofreading" service actually covers two related activities — proofreading and copyediting — which are often confused. At FLC Poland, I make it simple: every text I work on in English will read well, sound natural and be correct, whatever the document.

An English proofreading and copyediting service designed for non-native speakers writing in professional, academic or legal contexts — legal contracts, academic papers, business proposals, company reports and much more.

For non-native speakers, the gap between "correct" and "natural" is real, and wider than most spellcheckers suggest.

A contract clause that is grammatically sound but awkwardly phrased raises doubts — about care, about professionalism, sometimes about meaning. An academic abstract that reads stiffly may be passed over by a reviewer who would otherwise have engaged with the research. A business proposal that does not flow loses the reader before the argument lands. Closing that gap is exactly what this service is for.

This is where native-speaker judgment becomes difficult to replace. AI tools are improving fast, but they still cannot tell the difference between English that is correct and English that works. Though they can catch certain errors, they cannot tell you that a sentence — though technically correct — sounds unnatural to a British reader, or that a word choice is slightly too formal, slightly too casual, or simply not what a native speaker would reach for. After close to 30 years working with Polish professionals writing in English, I can.

Proofreading

The final check before publication: spelling, punctuation, capitalisation, a missing word. Essential for any text going out under your name or your firm's.

Copyediting

Goes further — tightening sentences, fixing awkward phrasing, adjusting tone, and ensuring the whole text is consistent. I follow the principles of Plain English: sophisticated where the subject demands it, but always clear to the reader.
